Jo Stallard Counsellor

About Me

Hello, I’m Jo

I’m a BACP Accredited Person-Centred Counsellor, Psychotherapist, and Clinical Supervisor with over 16 years’ experience in both NHS primary care and private practice. Over the years I’ve supported people facing depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, bereavement, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties. Much of my work has been within community mental health and cancer support, giving me deep insight into the complexity of each person’s story.

My journey into counselling began in an unexpected place, a florist’s shop. I started at 14 as a Saturday assistant and went on to co-own a flower shop for over a decade. In that time, I witnessed the raw emotions of life’s milestones from the joy of weddings and births to the sorrow of saying goodbye. When a series of personal losses touched my own life, I saw first-hand the difference counselling could make, and I knew I wanted to offer that same support to others.

I began with a listening skills course, then joined the NHS as a Health Trainer, helping people make lifestyle changes around diet, exercise, smoking cessation, and alcohol use. I quickly realised these behaviours were often linked to deeper emotional needs, which led me to study psychology and begin my professional counselling training. Over the years I have completed a BSc in Psychology (The Open University), a Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and advanced training in Cognitive Behavioural Approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CFD), Compassion Focused Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT).

Supervision has always been a vital part of my practice, and experiencing both inspiring and challenging supervision led me to complete a Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision. I also recently qualified as a Breathwork Coach, offering clients a powerful way to ground themselves and reconnect, particularly helpful when talking feels hard.

My own learning journey hasn’t been without challenges. Being diagnosed with dyslexia at 56 helped me approach my studies and work with greater self-compassion, patience, and flexibility, qualities I bring into my therapeutic practice with clients.

I work from a tranquil, purpose-built therapy room nestled in my garden just outside Evesham. A space I find both inspiring and calming, where I hope you too can feel a sense of acceptance and ease. I also offer sessions online and by telephone for those who prefer or need remote support.

My approach is shaped by kindness, integrity, co-creation, and holism. I believe that when we feel truly supported, we can reconnect with our inner knowing and open the door to healing, growth, and meaning. Alongside my private practice, I work part-time as a Macmillan Counsellor, supporting people and families affected by cancer. I hold an enhanced DBS check and full professional insurance, and I am committed to ongoing learning and reflective practice, both academically and through my own counselling and breathwork journey.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me in my garden tending vegetables and flowers, or walking in nature, the places where I find grounding, inspiration, and joy.
